History

New Rochelle Lightning Hockey, Inc., was founded in 1981. The program developed throughout the early 1980's. In 2006, a new group of parents were elected as officers and directors, new coaches volunteered their time, and the organization has grown into a thriving Youth Hockey program. NRLH serves as a springboard for boys and girls to learn the fundamentals of skating and the game of hockey. The organization is proud that it keeps costs considerably lower than every other comparable local program. In 2012, NRLH reactivated its membership in the Hudson Valley Hockey League.

2013-2014 was a milestone season, during which NRLH fielded its first Bantam aged team since restarting the program in 2006. Also during that season, the New York Rangers recognized NRLH contributions to the community and awarded the association with the RangersAssist grant including hockey equipment and dry land training gear. Their contribution allows us to provide free loaner equipment for those trying out the game, furthering our goal of opening the door to hockey for kids that otherwise may not be exposed to the game. And as the icing on the cake, the NRLH Peewees won the Hudson Valley Hockey League Peewee B division.

2014-2015 continued the growth of NRLH, with the Squirts making a run to the semifinals of the HVHL Squirt A1 division, falling to the eventual league champions. And entering the 2015-2016 season, NRLH has two Peewee teams for the first time. Additionally, we have entered into a long term agreement with Playland Ice to make Rye Playland our permanent home rink. We are all looking forward to a banner year with NRLH!
